MICCAI 2016 Challenge
Automatic Vertebral Fracture
Analysis and Identification from VFA by DXA

    Osteoporotic vertebral fractures are difficult to diagnose and are often only discovered when the spine is imaged. A clinical assessment of vertebral fracture status can be performed using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). This approach is known as vertebral fracture assessment (VFA). This challenge aims at promoting the development of computational methods for vertebral fracture diagnosis.

A journal paper presenting the challenge process and the results will be submitted to Medical Image Analysis or IEEE Trans Med Imaging by December 2016. All authors from the presented methods will be invited to participate in this paper.
This Challenge is in conjunction and with the support of the 2016 International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI2016).

Important Dates

May 15th, 2016: Release of the Training Dataset.

June 15th, 2016: Release of the Testing Dataset A.

September 1st, 2016: Deadline for registration for challenge participation.

September 15th, 2016: Deadline for the submission of the results on the Training Dataset and the Testing Dataset A, and a paper describing the methodology.

October 17th, 2016: Challenge workshop in association with MICCAI 2016. (The 4rd MICCAI Workshop & Challenge on Computational Methods and Clinical Applications for Spine Imaging)
